About me

Name: Ged Clapson
Born: 20 March 1955, Bristol

Currently resident in Mitcham, Surrey

I have now (2018) taken early retirement, after being diagnosed with cancer (chemotherapy is ongoing). But my working life has always been in communications: the media and associated areas. For 15 years, I worked as a radio producer and presenter with the BBC, and, deep down, I supppose I still consider myself to be a broadcaster. Once it gets into your blood it stays with you. But over the past 25 years or so, I've branched out - training others in communications and media skills, while continuing in radio production and presentation whenever possible.

Outside of work, I enjoy the arts. I love the theatre - especially musicals; recent productions have included Goodnight, Mr Tom - the musical, The Wizard of Oz and The Vicar of Dibley. I'm an amateur singer (karaoke whenever the opportunity arises) and I also enjoy painting and I get great pleasure from my garden and its wildlife.

Since 1990, when I moved to London, I have worked principally with charities, especially those with Christian roots. Most recently, I was Communications Officer for the British Jesuits who work in schools, parishes and missions throughout the world.

Vissi d'arte

From Tosca - Giacomo Puccini:

Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore,
non feci mai male ad anima viva!
Con man furtiva
quante miserie conobbi aiutai.

Sempre con fe' sincera
la mia preghiera
ai santi tabernacoli salì.
Sempre con fe' sincera
diedi fiori agli altar.

Nell'ora del dolore
perché, perché, Signore,
perché me ne rimuneri così?

Diedi gioielli della Madonna al manto,
e diedi il canto agli astri, al ciel,
che ne ridean più belli.
Nell'ora del dolore,
perché, perché, Signor,
ah, perché me ne rimuneri così?

English Translation:

I lived for art, I lived for love,
I never harmed a living soul!
With a discreet hand
I relieved all misfortunes I encountered.

Always with sincere faith
my prayer
rose to the holy tabernacles.
Always with sincere faith
I decorated the altars with flowers.

In this hour of grief,
why, why, Lord,
why do you reward me thus?

I donated jewels to the Madonna's mantle,
and offered songs to the stars and to heaven,
which thus did shine with more beauty.
In this hour of grief,
why, why, Lord,
ah, why do you reward me thus?
